POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the District Manager, the Senior Engineer supports transmission operations and maintenance by developing procedures, completing analytical studies, conducting facility condition assessments, and providing equipment support. The role involves applying approved programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with transmission operating reliability requirements. Additionally, the Senior Engineer interprets and advises transmission operations and maintenance personnel on transmission maintenance issues. Responsibilities may include implementing compliance programs for various NERC or PUCT reliability standards, with potential designation as a Technical Expert (TE) or Subject Matter Expert (SME).

JOB FUNCTION:

  • Develop plans, specifications, and evaluation design standards, and perform engineering studies related to the design, operation, and maintenance of area transmission systems.
  • Specialize in creating maintenance and testing plans for transmission equipment or systems.
  • Perform project management and engineering functions for special projects to maintain compliance and the continued operation and maintenance of area utilities transmission facilities.
  • Collaborate with peers and other personnel to identify, define, or solve practical problems in support of transmission design, maintenance processes, and compliance programs.
  • Manage compliance with various reliability standards, including but not limited to CIP, COM, EOP, FAC, IRO, PRC, or Texas Infrastructure and Reliability regulations (16 TAC 25).
  • Develop training programs for transmission personnel to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry best practices and standards.
  • Ensure record-keeping and retention meet regulatory, internal, and other requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work in both outdoor and office conditions.
  • Provide technical support for field technicians related to maintenance and restoration activities as needed.
  • Supervise maintenance and construction projects as required.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable NERC, ERCOT, TRE, and Texas PUC reliability standards, operating rules, and regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions.
  • The successful individual will be a mature self-starter, service-oriented, and professional in conduct and attitude.
  • A valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 Apps (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from ABET accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
  • 8 years post-grad or combined technical experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering role.
  • EIT/FE (Certificate of Engineer in Training or Fundamentals of Engineering Exam) preferred.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) registration is preferred.
