Overview:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Project Controller to join their team and take the lead on a significant $3 billion institutional project. This role is crucial for the financial oversight and successful completion of the project. The Project Controller will work closely with the project team to manage all financial aspects, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and compliance processes. Additionally, the Project Controller will be responsible for developing and enhancing systems for financial reporting, budget tracking, and variance analysis. Reporting directly to the VP of Accounting or their designee, this position ensures the integration of financial accounting and treasury management practices as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up and manage project AP, AR, financial tracking, and reporting systems.
- Work closely with the Project Executive and/or Project Manager to ensure accurate and timely tracking and issuance of change orders and subcontractor back charges.
- Ensure compliance with the company's financial policies and procedures, including revenue recognition and payables processing.
- Manage project document repositories.
- Maintain data accuracy and integrity in operational data management.
- Collaborate with the Financial Controller to establish internal control systems and develop policies for financial reporting.
- Review financial data monthly to ensure its completeness and accuracy.
- Produce and present monthly owner draw requests/bills as required.
- Prepare and regularly update project cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor and manage job overhead costs, including office space, supplies, and consumables.
- Analyze and forecast project profitability, revenue, budgets, and margins.
- Follow up with clients regarding unpaid invoices when necessary.
- Frequent travel to project sites is expected.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 5 years of construction accounting experience.
- Experience in leading large-scale projects, preferably with budgets in the billions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in managing financial reporting.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with CMIC is preferred, but candidates must have experience with at least one of the following tools: CMIC, Sage, or Timberline.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds, bend, pull, and carry.
- Strong quantitative/mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
