Position Summary:
1) Directs critical Financial Close processes for an efficient, effective, and accurate closing of the books
2) Develops and validates SAP processes and procedures for optimization in the use of SAP
3) Manages company costing processes to allow for proper analysis of actuals versus standards.
4) Develops personnel through training, goal setting and consistent feedback.

Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

Overall

  • Oversees the day-to-day and month end close processes that ultimately feeds into the preparation of the monthly/quarterly/annual Financial Statements through leadership of staff and guidance for process development & improvement.
  • Develops opportunities to optimize the use of SAP by engaging team members to adapt processes and procedures for improvement.
  • Develops accurate standard costs and continually evaluates the appropriateness of those costs to allow for leadership to analyze the results.
  • Supports the overall achievement of the Finance Department’s objectives and annual goals as well as team and individual goals specifically.

Close Process

  • Manages the timing and overall preparation of the monthly closing process.
  • Communicates effectively with Plant Controllers to stay abreast of current issues and resolution of those issues.
  • Collaborates with other company departments as needed.
  • Guide staff in the management of journal entries including:
  • Maintenance of auto journal entries
  • Considerations of reversing journal entries
  • Reviews the staff prepared journal entries
  • Prepares journal entries, as needed
  • Manages specific Balance Sheet & Income Statement areas of focus, including:
  • Inventory
  • Inventory Obsolescence
  • Purchase Price Variance Analysis and Allocation
  • Accrued Freight
  • Loading of Companies managed outside of SAP.
  • Miscellaneous others, as needed
  • Assists Financial Close Staff with the resolution of questions and issues.
  • Guides staff through the Allocation Process ensuring consistency in application and completeness of the process.
  • Compiles and submits information for all required department/corporate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and meetings.

Monthly Reconciliation Process

  • Leads staff in the preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  • Leads staff in the preparation of Balance Sheet trend analytical report.
  • Provides review and/or comments on the balance sheet reconciliations or balance sheet trend report.

SAP Processes and Procedures

  • Pivotal Super User in the SAP ERP System.
  • Leads the development, improvement, and optimization of SOP Processes within SAP.
  • Defines/Refines the detailed allocation set up within SAP.
  • Provides hands-on support for other Finance Department users.

COSTING

  • Works with Supply Chain Team to create costing standards on at least an annual basis.
  • Analyzes actual results as compared to the standard costs to assure standards are appropriate.
  • Manages inventory costing to assure no zero cost items.

SOX Controls

  • Performs assigned SOX controls in timely and effective manner.
  • Take appropriate actions should performance of assigned SOX control identify ineffectiveness/non-compliance in addressing the risk the control was intended to address.

Audit Assistance

  • Prepares audit schedules as needed for internal and external auditors.
  • Coordinates audit processes and follow-up procedures with internal and external auditors.

People Management

  • Provides developmental guidance for Financial Close Staff through the establishment and maintenance of goals and the pursuit of growth behaviors progress.
  • Assists in the implementation and training used for corporate transactional accounting systems; focusing on opportunities to streamline and enhance current processes.

Working Conditions/Environment:

Works in a normal office environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, see, hear, sit, stand, talk, type, walk and bend while moving about the office.  The noise level in the office is quiet. 

Qualification Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • 10-15 years prior work experience in Financial Close, Standard Costing and Systems Involvement (SAP, PRISM etc.).
  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous leadership/supervisory experience required.
  • Prior experience with SAP required.
  • Prior experience with Prism software, and AS400 preferred.
