We are seeking a Controller to join our team at a prestigious high-end residential and commercial construction company. The ideal candidate will demonstrate robust financial expertise, particularly in construction accounting, budget management, and adherence to industry regulations. Proficiency in financial software such as Sage 300 is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review financial reports, including project cost analysis and variances, providing regular financial updates to departments and senior management.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to senior management.
  • Monitor company, department, and project expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost control measures to maintain budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, industry standards, and company policies, collaborating with auditors and regulatory agencies as needed and supporting the preparation of tax returns.
  • Oversee payment processes for vendors and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, managing lien releases and payment certificates.
  • Maintain Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) Reports, updating department executives weekly.
  • Oversee procurement of equipment, tools, and vehicles, maintaining records and oversee maintenance of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Assist in annual insurance renewals to ensure proper coverage and mitigate financial risks.
  • Work with Outside Risk Advisor and Insurance Company on active claims.
  • Assist in quarterly forecasts and manage department budgets aligned with company financial objectives and collaborate with Managers to develop accurate budgets.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong understanding of construction accounting, project costing, and contract management.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and familiarity with tax planning, compliance, and financial regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a collaborative, results-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software, including Sage 300, Excel, and Microsoft Office.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; MBA, CPA, or CFMA preferred.
  • 7-10 years of finance or accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role in the construction industry, preferably with a General Contractor.
